As a specialist practice, the purpose of our first visit is to meet you and get to know your child, which involves a consultation and comprehensive examination, including a “chalky teeth” check. X-rays may be taken at this visit if necessary.
The first consultation gives our specialist paediatric dental team the opportunity to assess your child’s dental needs and discuss all aspects of preventive including oral hygiene routines at home (correct toothbrushing and flossing techniques), appropriate feeding and dietary habits.
If your child requires treatment, we will formulate an individualized treatment plan based on your child’s coping abilities and determine the best positive and comfortable way of delivering required treatment for your child. We will discuss any dental findings, recommended treatment and costs involved directly with you. In general, no treatment will be offered at the first visit.
Your child’s first dental visit is internationally recommended by 12 months of age. Dental problems at an early age is not uncommon, and the earlier the dental visit, the earlier prevention can begin. Early examination and preventive advice ensure the best possible dental start for your child which will hopefully carry them into adulthood.
Our bright, cheerful office environment will help to make your child’s first dental visit fun, enjoyable and positive! Parents can prepare their child for the first visit by playing pretend dentist and being positive about the dental experience. Helpful children’s books and websites can be used to explain the dental visit. Remind your child that going to the dentist is a sign that they are growing up!

Our specialist paediatric dental team are all highly experienced in addressing children’s fears through their dental experiences and guide their behaviour in a constructive direction. We explain all procedures involved to your child in terms they can understand by using pleasant and non-frightening words and demonstrate the equipment in a fun and imaginative way. It is our goal to promote your child’s confidence and self-esteem in a positive way during the first visit.
